Provision was therefore made in the Harbour of Refuge

Ordinance (Section 4 sub-section (4)) for its execution.

Section 12 of the Ordinance makes provision for the award

of compensation to owners whose property may be prejudicial-

-ly affected by the proposed works.

(1). Shaukiwan Waterworks Extension, $40,000 .

Owing principally to the opening of the Taikoo Shipyard,

there has been a great development in this neighbourhood

which renders works for increasing the water supply to the

district a matter of urgent necessity. The fact that the

most suitable sites in the locality for reservoirs have

been disposed of in the past to the Taikoo Sugar Refinery

has rendered the provision of a scheme on economical lines

a difficult matter. A more detailed account of the scheme

will be forwarded to Your Lordship in due course.

(m). Additional Service Reservoir, West

Point, $30,000.

In consequence of the necessity of

conserving the contents of the Pokfulam Reservoir for the

supply of the Hill District and High Levels of the City,

it is necessary to distribute water from the Tytam Reser-

-voirs over a large portion of the Western District of the
